JobsDB's C.L.A.S.S + Boy Abunda

I already find it hard updating my blog. It's inevitable. There are really times that I would encounter events that'll spark an idea in my head saying, "I can create a a wonderful post about this one!" However, finding time to post about it is a little hard than I thought.

Moving on, I attended a symposium yesterday. It was sponsored by JobsDB.com. I learned a lot about selling yourself in the industry. We all know that the business community is a bit harsh for fresh graduates. As a soon-to-be fresh graduate, I really hope that I would land in a job that fits me best. Going back to the symposium, they were able to give us ideas with the opportunities available here and abroad. And the great part was, Boy Abunda is the guest speaker.

Boy Abunda is one of the most sought-after talk show hosts. He won Best Talk Show host in an award giving body that I don't know for 14 times. He really changed my perceptions about him. I thought of him as a person with intelligence but not wisdom. But, he proved me wrong. He is one person that'll always have my respect. Among everyone that I heard deliver a speech, I would be lying if I tell you that he's one of the best because he IS the best. He tells you what he wants to tell you. His family was his main priority. He even told us that if his mother calls him in the middle of his speech yesterday, he will leave us. He will stop his speech because it IS his mother.

I took down notes just in case my deteriorating memory fails me. The first thing he discussed was about him being a talkative boy full of ideas. I think the word "shy" is not in his dictionary. "Ilang brilliant ideas and hindi nasasabi dahil sa accent." He kept bragging about him being a native of Boronggan, Eastern Samar. He brags about hind Bisayan accent that usually causes his Atenista classmates to make fun of him. Nevertheless, he defied this obstacle by being himself. He didn't define his life with what other people expect him to be. "Not everyone are kind. Some are nasty. Why would I let these nasty people define my life?" Good point. Hands down.

There are two great speeches he never forgets. The first one was J.K. Rowling's inspiring graduation speech in Harvard. It was entitled Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Power of Imagination. J.K. Rowling obeyed her parents' decision of what she should take in college. She loved writing. She would write during her break. She would write when she does nothing at home. She writes for her comfort. Being someone who isn't what she is, writing is her source of contentment. What was she writing during that moments? Yes, it's Harry Potter. 'Her life's conclusion? She's the richest woman in the world as of the moment. The second he loves the most is Oprah's Welsely(?) Univeristy's commencement speech. The main point was not losing your core because it defines you. Oprah made her life transparent to the public. She was raped at 8. She had a child at 14 (if my memory serves me right). "If you live from the point of view of truth, you'll survive in your life."

He also talked about his imperfections. He mainly pointed out his nose. He thinks it's a bit big. But so what? He said, "I got to love my nose because it's mine." He kept on giving us wonderful excerpt from other people's live. Patty Label(?), a world-renowned singer, was the first black-American to sing in *something* Theater. She dreamt of this every day of her life. However, her sister caught a sickness at her performance. She requested Patty to make her favorite egg sandwich. Patty, on the other hand, told her sister to wait for her to finish the concert and shell make her sandwich. Sadly at the middle of the concert, she received a message telling her that her sister passed away. She told the crowd that they can get a refund if they want to but she will stop there. She said, "If you love someone, say it now because tomorrow is not promised."

He also talked about Nonoy's consideration of him being the Tourism Secretary. He was invited as a guest speaker in an event sponsored by the same organization that opposed his appointment as secretary. The same thing he did to my thoughts, he proved them wrong. When given a task, he researches. Kumbaga, hindi siya pumupunta sa laban ng walang baril. At the end of his talk, the head of the organization came up to him and told him, "In behalf of my organization, I apologize. We probably missed the best secretary." 'Now that's something.

Anyway, I came home late yesterday. I arrived around 9pm. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the symposium. I really hope our reporting in ECE 141 would turn out great. =)

It's wonderful. Krisha.
